§ 19-46. Excavating near underground wires of street or park lighting system.

  • It shall be unlawful for any person to do any digging or make any excavation in any of the streets or sidewalks of the city at, under, over, around or so near the location of any underground wire, cable, cable case or cable carrier constituting a part of the public street or park lighting system, as to be likely to do injury or damage to the same or to the armor or insulation thereof, without first notifying the city electrician and securing a permit from him to do such digging or make such excavation. All such digging or excavation work shall be done under the supervision of the city electrician and so as not to injure or damage such cables and wires or the insulation or armor thereon. Any person who shall cause any damage to any such wire, cable, the insulation thereof or the armor case or receptacle covering or carrying the same shall be guilty of a violation of this chapter and, in addition to the penalty provided by section 1-21 of this Code, shall be liable in damages to the city for the damage done.
